Description

Westmoreland Glass
Grapeville, Pennsylvania
ca 1920-30s
This very pretty marigold carnival glass creamer with dome-base footing by Westmoreland is pictured on p. 28 of the
Standard Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass (6th Edition)
by Bill Edwards and Mike Carwile.
According to Edwards and Carwile, the
“…Westmoreland Basketweave and Cable is a seldom-found pattern and surely must have been made in limited amounts”
(p. 28).
The marigold
iridescence is strongest and darkest on the lid, softer on the creamer and gently fades to clear glass on the very outer reaches of the handle, all with nice impact.
There are, of course, a few tiny air bubbles and shearing tool marks (“straw marks”) from manufacturing commonly found in the hand manufacturing of old carnival and opalescent pressed glass.  No two pieces of carnival glass are identical.  Each piece is truly unique.
